About American Angler

Originally, American Angler was officially formed in 2016 out of the dust from fishing another club. When the surf anglers of that club fell apart, we formed. We are dedicated group of recreational fishermen that have a love for surf fishing and love for our great hobby. We compete, we share and we will be the best. Tony Evangelista Award

Tony Evangelista was a mentor to Carl Hartmann and many others for over 25 years. He taught us how to surf fish with many of his own techniques and knowledge base. When times got tough, he encouraged us to go out on our own and was the first member to sign up. Tony was present for the first meeting of American Angler and has become a highly regarded consultant to its development and growth. Without his wisdom, American Angler would not be where it is today. Therefore, we name our most prestigious award after him.

The Tony Evangelista Award is the highest award given to an American Angler member. It is given out once a year to the member who has shown dedication, participation and loyalty. The award started in 2018. The President and winners of this award only are eligible to vote the following year.
